Our second grade team of teachers work together to provide standards based differentiated instruction in all subject areas for our students; whether that be extra support or enrichment, large group, small group, or one-on-one. Our goal is that each child would grow to his/her full potential and become lifelong learners.
The only way to become a better reader is to read, read, read! Our aim is to produce fluent and accurate readers, who have good comprehension, and can read for extended periods of time. Student choice in reading material is encouraged, fostering a love of reading!
Through the practice of the 6+1 Traits of Writing, our second graders become well rounded writers! Students are provided daily writing opportunities to hone their craft in many styles. Second graders become authors as we introduce our students to the process of writing with Pictures and Image Making, which integrates social studies, science, health, and art to the writing process.
Our math curriculum covers a wide variety of concepts. We strive to provide opportunities that develop a deep understanding of number, flexible thinking and problem solving, and fluency and efficiency in operations.
21st Century skills are encouraged through our use of technology and are weaved through all subject areas. Students get experience in using technology as both a source of information and a way to communicate.
