Columbus Elementary students make beautiful music together! Twice a week, children in kindergarten through sixth grade come to the music classroom, where they take part in a variety of music activities.  Students sing, play recorders, and play a wide variety of percussion instruments. They use Orff instruments, consisting of xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels

Students use movement to create and connect with music, and learn to use solfege -- a system of interval reading using do, re, mi, etc. They also learn to read music on the music staff. We sing, say, read and play!

Each student in grades three through six is involved in a music program each year. This is an opportunity for students to learn performance skills. It also helps to build a feeling of community and gives the children the satisfaction of creating a musical experience, for themselves and for their families.

The music program at Columbus emphasizes participation and confidence building, in each child's talents.
"Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no bird sung there except those that sang best."
